  • Full Time : 2 – 8 Semesters
  • Part Time : 4 – 12 Semesters

The Master in Social Science programme is offered by research mode of study.

  1. A relevant bachelor’s degree with honours with a minimum CGPA of 2.75/4.00 or equivalent from the University or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
  2. 2.Other qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with honours and relevant professional work experience; or
  3. 3.A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.50/4.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75/4.00, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
  4. 4.In case the CGPA does not meet the requirement of 2.50/4.00, the selection will subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in relevant field.
  5. 5.The number of credit hours for the relevant bachelor’s degree and advanced diploma shall be as follows: -bachelor’s degree ≥ 120 credit hours -advanced diploma ≥ 90 credit hours

*Note: 1-year work experience is equivalent to 0.05 CGPA

English Language Requirement

Applicant shall show evidence of proficiency in English language based on the following criteria:

  • Graduated in the field of Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL), English Language Studies (ELS) and equivalent from a university recognised by the Senate, or
  • a native speaker of English.
  • Applicants who do not meet one of the above requirements and was offered conditional intake are required to fulfil anyone the criteria above within 12 Month (Master’s Student)

A Student shall show evidence of proficiency in the Arabic language, based on the following criteria:

1.graduated from institutions that use Arabic as the main medium of instructions; or

2.graduated in the field of Arabic Language and equivalent from a university recognised by the University; or

3.native speaker of Arabic or

4.passed the University Arabic Proficiency Test (UAPT) conducted by the University; or

5.passed the Arabic Course(s) conducted by the University

The university has the right to withdraw this offer or to terminate you from your study if you are found to suffer from or to be a carrier of contagious/infectious diseases, or to suffer from a medical condition requiring continuous medical care that will adversely affect your study at USIM.

Student must have passed based on the following criteria:
1.passed Research Methodology and Data Analysis courses and attained at least grade B for each of the courses
2.passed the English language requirements
3.passed the Arabic language requirements
4.passed the QT
5.published at least one (1) paper in a refereed journal, and co-authored with the Supervisor
6.presented at least one (1) paper in a conference or seminar, and approved by the Main Supervisor
7.passed the thesis examination and viva-voce
8.lodged the hard-bound and digitally-stored data copies of the thesis and 9.subject to any additional requirements by the Senate or other regulatory bodies.
