Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is the 12th public university in Malaysia. USIM aims to uphold and enhance Islamic studies through the integration of Naqli (revealed) and Aqli (human) with emphasis on the use of information technology in education and research system, as well as the mastery of Arabic and English languages.
Located near Putrajaya the Malaysian federal administrative center, and Kuala Lumpur the fastest growing metropolitan region in terms of population and economy, USIM is a very suitable place to pursue higher education. Educational hub creates an advantage for the university to provide conducive learning environment. In addition, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is just within 20 kilometers away from the main campus.
The Centre for Graduate Studies (CGS) is responsible to administer and monitor the postgraduate programme in USIM. The center envisages to enhance the academic research to generate knowledgeable, competent, and professional graduates in various fields. The main objective is to create opportunities for researchers and students to share the knowledge relating to Islam and Ummah.
The establishment of CGS was endorsed on February 26th, 2002 by the Special KUIM Senate Meeting Bil. 2/2002 (Mesyuarat Senat Universiti Khas Kolej Universiti Islam Malaysia (KUIM) Bil.2/2002). The establishment was acknowledged by the University Board of Governance (Lembaga Pengarah Universiti) during its meeting (Mesyuarat LPU KUIM Bil.4/2002) on July 24th, 2002. The first postgraduate intake enrolled on June 18th, 2002 for Semester I, Academic Session 2002/2003. All together, 12 students registered in which 9 were Master’s Degree students, and 3 were Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students. 10 of the students were international students (Indonesian, Iraqi, and Saudi), and the rest were Malaysians.
